Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) was established on July 8, 1982 as a Qatari shareholding company by the Emiri Decree No. 45 of 1982 in order to provide banking services in accordance with the provisions of Islamic Shari'a and as per the regulations of Qatar Central Bank (QCB). Operating primarily as a retail oriented bank for many years, WIB has emerged as a leading corporate and investment banking establishment as well during the last three years. In July 1983, QIB commenced operations with one branch. Today, the Bank operates 26 branches and a network of more than 100 ATMs. QIB has participated in the establishment of a range of finance houses in the Middle East, Europe and Asia, helping to establish its strong international presence.
